FIELD: pharmacology.

SUBSTANCE: oral care composition comprises sesquiterpene alcohol constituting bisabolol and a basic amino acid that is arginine in free form or in the form of a salt in which sesquiterpene alcohol is contained in a concentration of 0.01 to 0.5% and in which bisabolol and arginine are contained in the ratio of the amount of bisabolol to the amount of arginine, ranging from 1:2 to 2:1 w/w. A method for dental caries treatment or prevention, comprising administration of the above composition to the oral cavity of a subject in need thereof, is also provided.

EFFECT: use of the composition is effective to maintain the proper pH value in the oral cavity and to reduce the likelihood and/or progression of dental caries.
