SUBSTANCE: methods and systems for converting asymmetric response of exhaust gas sensor degradation to a more symmetric degradation response are provided. In one example, the method includes adjusting fuel injection to the engine in response to modified oxygen feedback signal on oxygen concentration in the exhaust gases received from the exhaust gas sensor. This feedback signal is modified by converting asymmetric response from the exhaust gas sensor into a more symmetrical response. In addition, the method can include adjusting one or more parameters of the exhaust gas sensor prevention controller based on the modified symmetric response.
EFFECT: achievement of stability in closed system operation.
