SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the methods of producing hydrogen at the site of its use, bypassing the storage stage, and relates to a method for determining the amount of free carbon in the conversion of hydrocarbons in converters. The method includes sampling and determiningf the amount of carbon on the catalyst, sampling is made from the gas phase at the outlet of the converter, then the composition of the selected gas phase is analyzed, based on the content of the samples, the mass fraction of the hydrogen in them is determined and the formula calculates the amount of free carbon, by the mass fraction of hydrogen.

EFFECT: simplification of the method for determining the amount of free carbon in the conversion of hydrocarbons in converters allows not only to use the method in the process of continuous operation of the converter in any modes, but also to determine with sufficient accuracy the mass fractions of free carbon in the composition of the synthesis gas.
