FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: titanium-containing material for the fuel cell separator comprises a titanium base material consisting of titanium or titanium alloy and containing titanium hydride layer on titanium base material and titanium oxide layer on said titanium-containing layer. The portion in titanium hydride composition [ITi-H/(ITi+ITi-H)] × 100 determined from the maximum intensity of X-ray diffraction peak of metallic titanium (ITi) and the maximum intensity of X-ray diffraction peak of titanium hydride (ITi-H) measured on the surface of titanium-containing material at the angle of x-rays incidence to the surface equal to 0.3° mm is 55% or more. At that C is contained in amount of 10 at % or less, N is in amount of 1 at % or less and B is in amount of 1 at % or less in position, in which the surface of titanium-containing material was subjected to ion sputtering with argon by 5 nm. The layer of titanium oxide has thickness of 3-10 nm.

EFFECT: high electrical conductivity of contact with carbon and increased durability of titanium-containing material.
