FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to process for preparation of cyclic ethers of formula I by catalytic cyclodehydration of 1,n-diols in presence of CuBr2 catalyst, at the molar ratio [CuBr2]:[diol] = 1–2:100 and at a temperature of 175–190 °C for 3–10 hours in inert atmosphere. Yield of cyclic ethers (1–6) reaches ~99 %. Synthesis is carried out in an inert gas atmosphere (argon). Cyclic ethers are widely used as organic solvents.
EFFECT: high yield of the desired product, availability and cheapness of the catalyst.
