FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to chemical industry and nanotechnology. First, graphite powder is intercalated with concentrated sulfuric acid, then oxidized with ammonium persulfate. Resulting intercalated graphite was subjected to cold expansion at 40 °C for 3 hours and subsequent mechanical splitting of graphene layers in grinding drums of a planetary mill filled with grinding balls for 60 min. Planetary mill comprises base 14, carrier 1 with rotation drive 3 of grinding drums 5 made in the form of cylindrical shells 15 with end walls 16 and cover 17 for loading expanded graphite and discharging of finished product. Drums 5 are filled with grinding balls. Juxtaposition between end walls 16 and cylindrical shell 15 is made in radius equal to or greater than the radius of the grinding balls. Axes of rotation of the reels 5 are arranged vertically or at an angle to the axis of rotation of the carrier 1. One or both end walls 16 of the grinding drums 5 are made spherical. In the grinding drums 5, additional grinding balls with a diameter of not less than 20 % less than the diameter of the grinding ball (dw), and the mass fraction of which is 0.2–0.5 of the total mass of the balls.

EFFECT: increases the productivity of the process of obtaining graphenes and graphene-like materials, simplifies the design of the planetary mill and ensures the stability of its work.
