SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of welding production. Method includes measuring the welding speed and the surfacing productivity from which the cross-sectional area of the weld metal is calculated. In this case, before the welding, on the basis of the technical conditions for the base and weld materials, the content of the chemical elements is determined in them, and after welding, content of these elements is determined in the weld metal, the share of the base metal in the weld metal is calculated for each chemical element contained therein, and the average value of ΨOS share of involvement of the base metal in the weld metal, and the cross-sectional area FO of penetration of the base metal is calculated by the formula FO=ΨOCFH/(1-ΨOC), where FH – cross-sectional area of deposited metal, cm2.
EFFECT: invention can be used to assess inequality of metal melting along length of weld, without resorting to its destruction.
