FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: use: for ultrasonic testing. Essence of invention is that for increasing the dynamic range of signals measured during ultrasonic testing, the original waveform, distorted because of limitation of its amplitude at the given positive and/or negative levels (clipping), is restored, and the original waveform is restored (de-clipped) by using an iterative method, which comprises limitation of the echo signal spectrum of the previous iteration in a given frequency range, inverse Fourier transformation, replacing the value of the received signal at time intervals, where the signal is not distorted, by the values of the clipped signal, and at the time intervals, where the signal is clipped, the signal values in modulus, lower the clipping levels, are replaced by cut-off level values, after that the next iteration is performed.
EFFECT: technical result is to provide the possibility of de-clipping signals for a clipping level of less than 10% of the maximum amplitude of an undistorted signal.
