FIELD: testing.

SUBSTANCE: area of application: for determining the type of reflector based on the amplitude of the ultrasonic pulses scattered thereby. The substance of the invention consists in the fact that echo signals scattered by the reflector are recorded by an antenna array installed on a prism in the double scanning mode, wherein an image of the reflector is restored based on said signals by the combination SAFT method according to the acoustic configuration under the assumption of emission and reception of a longitudinal or transverse wave, wherein two more images are additionally restored based on the same echo signals according to the acoustic configuration while emitting and receiving a transverse or longitudinal wave and according to the acoustic scheme while emitting a longitudinal wave and receiving a transverse wave, and if the amplitude of the flare of the reflector in the image restored when converting the wave type is less than 0.1 of half of the sum of the amplitudes of the flares of the two images restored without converting the wave type, a conclusion is made that the reflector is volumetric, otherwise the reflector is considered planar.

EFFECT: provided possibility of determining the type of reflector using three images thereof restored by the C-SAFT method based on one set of echo signals measured in the double scanning mode.
