SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method for controlling the gain and zero setting of a multi-pixel photon counter. Method for controlling the gain of multi-pixel photon counter comprises the steps, when the signals generated by the device are received within predefined periods, until predetermined total measurement time is reached, an amplitude histogram is generated based on the received signals, the positions of two successive peaks measurable on this histogram are determined, an error signal equal to the deviation between these two peaks is generated, and the voltage applied to the device is adjusted based on this error signal to maintain deviation equal to the predetermined value.

EFFECT: possibility to control the gain of multi-pixel photon counter.
