FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: indicator on the media to determine the content of sulfur-containing compounds in motor fuel includes fine sorbent with a chromogenic indicator immobilized therein. As fine sorbent, hydroxylated silica gel (98.0-99.95 wt %) is used, and as the chromogenic indicator - the indicator on the sulfur-containing compounds of chloranil (the rest). To determine the sulfur-containing compounds in motor fuel, the sample of analyzed fuel is introduced into the indicator tube filled with the indicator described above on the media by pumping or by lowering the tube into the fuel, after the end of the manifestation of the painted zone on its length the quantitative content of sulfur-containing compounds in the fuel is judged on. The method of obtaining an indicator on the media is that the chromogenic indicator is non-covalently immobilized on the sulfur-containing compounds on the fine hydroxylated silica gel by obtaining a suspension of silica gel by stirring it into a 0.05-0.2 wt % solution of chloranil at a ratio by weight of silica and solution from 1:1 to 1:10, evaporating the suspension with stirring to obtain a uniformly coloured thick mass and drying it to constant weight at a temperature of 60-80°C in case of the lack of moisture in the air.

EFFECT: invention allows to perform express analysis of the content of the sulfur-containing compounds in motor gasolines and diesel fuels.
