SUBSTANCE: method of preventing an accident in case of a malfunction in the AC and DC network includes the measurement of the electric current of the monitored electrical network, determination of the moments of appearance and damping of the defective arc, detection of the current of the defective arc, formation of the hazard level of the incident and its display. In this case, according to the method, the total duration of a defective arc with equal or unequal durations in the current cycle of one measurement is measured and its ratio to the duration of a given measurement cycle is calculated. Hazard level of the incident is determined from the ratio of the total duration of the defective arc to the duration of the given measurement cycle and / or forms a command to disconnect the monitored section of the electric network.

EFFECT: increasing the reliability and accuracy of determining the level of danger of an accident from a defective arc in electrical networks of direct current.
