FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to forming aluminium-magnesium system metal alloys exhibiting discontinuous deformation and localisation of deformation in bands causing premature corrosion and fracture of said alloys. Method of suppressing deformation bands on the surface of aluminium-magnesium alloy workpieces during forming involves passing an electric current through the workpiece during forming, wherein the workpiece is pretreated for at least 0.8 s with a current of not less than 60 A/mm2, after which, at the time of formation of the deformation band, determined from a negative voltage jump with duration of 1 ms, a rectangular current pulse with an amplitude of 60 A/mm2 is passed through the workpiece.
EFFECT: invention enables to reduce energy costs for metalworking, improve the quality of the treated surface and increase the durability of aluminium-magnesium alloys used in the production of cars and aircraft.
