FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves installation of flat capacitive transducer near potential risk area (strain concentrator) of metal, area deformation by application of external force by a loading device, EMR signal generation due to mechanical instability development in the form of spreading deformation bands, transformation of EMR signal by a capacitive EMR transducer and signal registration, with electrically active Al2O3 oxide film used as EMR source on the surface of aluminium alloy, where EMR signal evolves upon displacement of double electric layer connected to the oxide film against immobile EMR transducer in the course of evolvement and spread of localised plastic deformation in the form of mobile necking or during fracture propagation.
EFFECT: possible contact-free electromagnetic method when metal surface is free of ice crust.
