FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the oil and gas production industry, specifically to the technology of producing proppants, intended for use as proppants in the production of oil or gas by hydraulic fracturing of the formation. In the method for manufacturing a lightweight magnesia-quartz proppant from serpentinite with an additional component, comprising preliminary preparation of components, mixing them in a charge, grinding the resulting charge, granulating it, calcining the resulting granules and sieving them, the additional component used is argillic clay, pre-dried at a temperature of 400 °C, granules are calcined at a temperature of 1,280–1,380 °C, preliminary preparation of serpentinite is preliminary calcination at a temperature of 900 °C, wherein the initial charge is prepared with the following component ratio, wt%: serpentinite 92–98, argillite clay 8–2. Invention is developed in dependent claims of the formula.

EFFECT: density reduction with sufficient strength and hardness of the finished proppant granules.
