FIELD: environmental protection.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the purification of internal combustion engine exhaust gases. Exhaust emission control for the engine includes an electronic control unit (ECU). ECU can perform control to remove particulate matter by controlling the engine, so that the temperature of the particulate filter rises to a predetermined temperature of PM removal, to reduce the amount of solid particles accumulated in the particulate filter; and when the ECU determines that the amount of particulate matter accumulated in the particulate filter is less than or equal to a predetermined set amount of accumulation, perform control for desorption of the ash by controlling the engine, so that the temperature of the particulate filter is increased to a predetermined temperature of the ash desorption and is maintained at the same temperature of the ash desorption or higher in order to reduce the amount of ash deposited in the particulate filter.
EFFECT: desorption temperature of the ash is a temperature suitable for converting the ash to calcium oxide.
