SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely, to dentistry and orthodontics, and can be used in determining the shape of the dental arch according to the individual morphometric parameters of the face, and in the diagnosis and determination of the tactics of orthodontic treatment of patients during the period of bite of permanent teeth. For this purpose, a measurement is made on the face of the patient on one side of the distance from the point t – the tragion, on the tragus, to the point sn – the apophysiary point where cutaneous nasal septum join the upper lip (t-sn). And also measure the distance between the tragus point t on the right and t on the left (tt). Then, the value of the ratio of the received "t-sn" size to the "t-t" value in percent – the gnathic face index (GFI) is determined. If GFI is from 81 to 87, determine the belonging of the dental arch to the mesognathic form. With GFI value of more than 87 % – dolichognatic form. With a GFI value of less than 81 % – brachygnathic form.

EFFECT: method provides an effective diagnosis of dentoalveolar anomalies, as well as planning orthodontic treatment of patients in the period of bite of permanent teeth and allows to choose the tactics of orthopedic treatment according to the revealed form of the dental arch.
