SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of information and measurement systems and can be used in devices of computer vision systems designed to solve problems of measuring range, speed and direction of motion of objects on their digital video images. Claimed method of measuring distance on a digital video camera with the help of a target is to generate a digital video image of a measured object and a target attached to it in the form of a ball of known radius, the color of which is characterized by a weakly expressed color component. In this case, by processing individual frames of the video image, detection, contour detection and determination of the target radius are made, after which the physical size of the target radius is compared with its size in the video image and the distance to the required object is calculated at a given time.
EFFECT: effect of the shooting angle on the accuracy of the distance measurement is excluded.
