FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the epoxidation of an olefin, in which a mixture comprising an olefin, hydrogen peroxide, water and methanol, at a ratio of the weight of water to the weight of methanol of less than 1, is passed through a fixed catalyst bed containing a shaped titanium silicalite catalyst, the degree of destruction of the catalyst is reduced by conditioning the dry catalyst with a first conditioning liquid containing more than 60 wt% water and less than 40 wt% methanol, and at least one other conditioning liquid containing water and from 25 to 45 wt% methanol, wherein the total amount of water and methanol is at least 95 wt%.
EFFECT: preventing temperature rise caused by the release of heat during the adsorption of methanol on titanium silicate, and breakdown of the shaped catalyst.
