FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: with continuous casting in the crystallizer, electromagnetic stirring of the liquid core of the ingot is carried out. Liquid metal is impulsively acted upon by a stationary single-phase alternating electromagnetic field induced by an inductive coil located around the crystallizer. To carry out the impulse action of electromagnetic forces induced in the melt, stationary single-phase alternating electromagnetic field is interrupted at a frequency close to or coincident with the resonance frequency of the mechanical vibrations of the volume of the liquid core.
EFFECT: quality of the continuously cast ingot is improved by homogenizing the temperature field and the chemical composition of the liquid metal during crystallization while reducing the energy consumption for stirring.
