SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electronic control devices of vehicles. Method for detecting the theft of a trailer of a vehicle includes determining an electrical load of a trailer system prior to arming a vehicle alarm system and detecting changes in the electrical load after arming the vehicle alarm system. Alarm system is activated if the electrical load is significantly different from the electrical load determined prior to arming the vehicle alarm system.
EFFECT: increase in the protection of the vehicle's trailer against theft is achieved.
