SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing a substrate for applying a metal coating by thermal spraying. Adhesive layer is applied to the coated zone, the layer having a uniform thickness of more than 10 mcm and less than 100 mcm. Before the adhesive dries, cold spraying of the metal powder onto the coated area is carried out such that the powder particles become immersed, at least in part, in said adhesive layer. Adhesive is dried, wherein said powder particles remain entrapped, thereby forming a primer coating suitable for receiving a metallic coating applied by thermal spraying.
EFFECT: method is used to protect the leading edges of fan blades.
