SUBSTANCE: using: for examining cultured cells for the presence of periodic structures. Summary of invention is in fact that the method comprises the steps of: providing cultured cells, fixing the cultured cells, staining the fixed cultured cells using a first staining agent, stimulating the first staining agent causing it to emit light, deriving a two-dimensional image of the fixed cultured cells, cross-correlating the first filtered image with a second two-dimensional filtered image derived from the image of the fixed cultured cells to obtain a correlation image and determining the presence or absence of periodic structures in the fixed cultured cells by determining whether there are periodic structures of maxima and minima in brightness in the correlation image.
EFFECT: providing more rapid and less resource-intensive examination of cultured cells for the presence of periodic structures of certain components in cultured cells.
