FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the processing of materials by cutting and can be used for milling products made of titanium and its alloys. Cutting insert has a hard-alloy base with a wear-resistant coating and contains an upper working surface with an elevation at its center and a lower base surface. At least one fixing hole extends through the elevation and the lower base surface. Between the upper working and lower base surfaces is a lateral surface adjacent at the rear corners to the upper working surface with the formation of major cutting edges, each of which contains the front and back surfaces. In the section of the cutting insert located in a plane passing through the axis of the fixing hole perpendicular to the main cutting edge, the cutting angle is selected in the range 10…24°, cutting angle is selected in the range 6…18°, wherein the inner angle of inclination of the side surface of the elevation of the fixing hole to the lower base surface is greater than the rear cutting angle and is selected in the range 21…35°.
EFFECT: mechanical strength of the cutting wedge is increased, the optimal conditions for chip removal in the zone of the fixing holes are created.
