FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a metal-cutting tool and method of its manufacture and can be used in the processing of products from hard-to-cut materials with mills. Cutting tool contains a working part with a carbide base, on which a multi-layer wear-resistant coating is formed by physical vapor deposition on the surface of this base, comprising at least an intermediate layer, deposited on the rough surfaces of the front and rear surfaces of the base and including at least one of the metal nitrides from the series Ti, Zr, Nb, Cr, Hf, and a wear-resistant layer formed of TiB2 on the surface of the intermediate layer, and cutting edges formed at the intersection of the front and rear surfaces of the base. These intermediate and wear-resistant layers are applied at a pulse supply frequency of up to 250 Hz, a pulse duration of more than 150 mcs and a floating potential on the substrate.
EFFECT: resistance of the cutting tool is increased.
