FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is designed for processing with large feeds of products from hard-to-machine materials, including titanium and its alloys. Cutting insert comprises a hard-alloy base with a wear-resistant coating, a mounting hole with an axis and an upper work surface comprising at least three identical convex cutting edges having a curved area in the form of a circle, and concave front surfaces directed into the upper work surface, identical angles connecting the convex cutting edges, the lower base surface, and identical lateral sides extending between the convex cutting edge and the lower edge. Lower lateral and upper back lateral surfaces are inclined at different internal acute angles to the lower base surface. Lower side surface is divided into the first and second lower side surfaces along a wavy curve having an upward wave directed toward the region of the convex cutting edge in the form of a circle and a downward wave encompassing the angles of the side surface of the cutting insert. Lateral base surface is formed at each second lower side surface at an acute angle to the lower base surface. Conditions for making the corners of the insert are given.

EFFECT: resistance of the cutting tool is increased.
