FIELD: metal cutting tool.
SUBSTANCE: proposed indexable cutting plate machining hard-to-machine materials comprises opposing top and bottom surfaces with fastening hole extending there through. Top and bottom surfaces are connected by side surface arranged perpendicular to them to make major and angular cutting edges extending above top and bottom base surfaces to make cutting wedges. Cutting wedges are located mirror symmetrically one relative to another on opposite surfaces of the cutting plate and have an inwardly facing front surface. Cross-section of cutting wedges of the main cutting edges, which are convex relative to the corresponding base surface, has a constant value along their length. Along the front surface of the cutting wedges, grooves of variable depth are made, in which the line connecting the most depressed sections of their bottom is equidistant from the corresponding main cutting edge. A milling cutter is disclosed in which nests are made for installing the said indexable cutting plates therein.
EFFECT: increasing resistance of cutting plates and milling cutter when processing hard-to-machine materials.
