SUBSTANCE: system associated with the sensor shaft and coupled shaft for collecting data on shafts, including the first sensor array located in axially spaced positions of the sensor shaft, wherein each sensor of the first array enters the contact area between the sensor shaft and coupled shaft at each rotation of the sensor shaft to generate the signal of the first corresponding sensor; second sensor array located in the axially spaced positions of the coupled shaft, wherein each sensor of the second array enters the contact area between the sensor shaft and coupled shaft at each rotation of the coupled shaft to generate the signal of the second corresponding sensor, periodical first temporary reference associated with each rotation of the coupled shaft; periodical second temporary reference associated with each rotation of the sensor shaft, and a processor for receiving the signal received from the sensor, wherein the signal received from the sensor includes one of the signal of the corresponding first sensor and the signal of the second corresponding sensor, and after receiving the signal received from the sensor, the processor determines one particular sensor of the sensors of the first array or second array that generated the signal received from the sensor, when this one particular sensor belongs to the first array, then based on the first time elapsed since the most recent first time reference, determines a detected tracking segment based on which one of the plurality of first tracking segments associated with the coupled shaft enters the contact area substantially concurrently with that particular sensor from the first array when this one particular sensor belongs to the second array, then, based on the second time elapsed since the latest second time reference, determines a detected tracking segment based on which one of the plurality of second tracking segments associated with the sensor shaft, enters the contact area substantially simultaneously with that particular sensor from the second array and stores the signal received from the sensor using the detected tracking segment.
