SUBSTANCE: invention relates to smoking article comprising tobacco rod; filter comprises a plug of filtration material that defines a furthest downstream end of the smoking article, downstream end of the smoking article and is surrounded by one or more of the filter wrappers; and a rim material securing the tobacco rod and filter and containing ventilation zone; the rim material and the filter wrapper or wrappers have a combined thickness (t) perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the smoking article; the smoking article, at a location about the body of the plug of filtration material, has a diameter (DSA) perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the smoking article; diameter ratio (DSA) to thickness (t) of less than about 80; and filtration material extends to the furthest downstream end of the smoking article; the ventilation zone contains perforations through the rim material; and the perforations pass through one or more filter wrappers.
