FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: describes a biomimetic collagen-hydroxyapatite composite material comprising a partially fibrous collagen scaffold comprising mature natural collagen fibers that are characterized by triple helicity as measured by circular dichroism spectroscopy, these mature collagen natural fibers are at least partially covered with epitaxially grown crystals of nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite and the epitaxially grown nanocrystals are characterized by a morphology and size similar to the human bone mineral, id est, the length is from 30 to 50 nm, and the width is from 14 to 25 nm. Method for producing a composite material is described. Composite material is used as an implant or prosthesis for bone formation, bone regeneration, bone repair and/or replacement in a defective bone region in a human or animal, or as an implant for combined regeneration of bone and cartilaginous bone tissue.

EFFECT: composite material is stable to mechanical loads.
