FIELD: nuclear power plants.

SUBSTANCE: calico tape is used as a cleaning material, which is placed on two reels of the rewind mechanism, and its background contamination is measured using an input optical colour sensor and an alpha contamination sensor. The tape is pressed against the sheath tube with a specified standard force and relative movement of the pressed section of the tape and the sheath tube is performed. Then the tape is taken out of contact with the sheath tube and rewound by the step size. Using the output optical colour sensor and the alpha contamination sensor, contamination of the surface of the said tape, which was in contact with the sheath tube for taking a smear, is monitored. Obtained contamination readings are compared with similar contamination control readings of a given tape made by input sensors before smearing, after which, according to the difference in contamination readings, the physical and alpha contamination of the FA shell tube are determined.
