FIELD: chemical or physical processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a hydrodesulphurisation catalyst comprising a support, phosphorus, at least one metal selected from group VIB, the group VIB metal is molybdenum and at least one metal selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table of Elements, wherein the Group VIII metal is cobalt, wherein content of the Group VIB metal, expressed in terms of oxide content, ranges from 6 to 25 wt% of the total weight of the catalyst, content of the Group VIII metal, expressed in terms of oxide content, ranges from 0.5 to 7 wt% of the total weight of the catalyst, the support contains at least 90 wt% alumina, which is obtained from mixed and extruded boehmite gel, and the density of molybdenum in the catalyst, expressed as the number of molybdenum atoms per nm2 of the catalyst ranges from 3 to 5, the Co/Mo atomic ratio ranges from 0.3 to 0.5, and the P/Mo atomic ratio ranges from 0.1 to 0.3 and the specific surface area of said catalyst ranges from 60 to 150 m2/g. Method for preparing such a catalyst is also described.
EFFECT: technical result is the preparation of a catalyst having improved hydrodesulphurisation activity and improved selectivity for hydrodesulphurisation as compared to the hydrogenation of olefins.
