FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: used for the generation of terahertz pulses based on the thermoelastic effect. Essence of the invention is that acoustic vibrations are produced by the action of a laser pulse on a pair of metals, one of which, exposed to laser radiation, is a film of a metal alloy, and the second material is a substrate serving to convert the resulting ultrasonic pulses into electromagnetic radiation, wherein the thickness of the metal film is selected from the condition that the absorption of the laser radiation takes place completely in its near-surface zone, and the power and duration of the laser pulse are calculated proceeding from the inadmissibility of evaporation of the irradiated substance and the formation of phase transitions in it.

EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of stable generation of terahertz electromagnetic pulses.
