FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing a multi-layered paint system on a metal substrate, in which the base layer or a plurality of directly alternating base layers are obtained directly on a metal substrate coated with a cured coating applied by an electrochemical method, the topcoat is obtained directly on one base layer or the topmost of a plurality of base layers, and then one or more base layers and the topcoat are cured together, and where at least one base lacquer used to obtain the base layers includes at least one aqueous dispersion comprising at least one copolymer, wherein said copolymer is obtained by (I) loading an aqueous dispersion of at least one polyurethane, and (ii) polymerising a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers in the presence of polyurethane from (I), where (a) a water-soluble initiator is used, (b) olefinically unsaturated monomers are measured in such a way that the concentration of 6.0 wt. %, in terms of the total amount of olefinically unsaturated monomers used for polymerisation, is not exceeded in the reaction solution throughout the reaction, and (c) the mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers comprises 0.1–6.0 mol. % of at least one polyolefinically unsaturated monomer.

EFFECT: technical result is to provide a method for producing multi-layered paint systems that do not require a separate curing step for the coating composition applied directly onto the coating, applied by an electrochemical method, excellent resistance to pin holes, so that a relatively high coating thickness of the corresponding basecoat films can be made.
