FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aqueous dispersions containing polymers obtained by a multistage process, as well as to compositions of coating materials. Aqueous dispersion containing at least one polymer and obtained by I) polymerizing a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers A containing at least one monounsaturated ester of (meth)acrylic acid having an unsubstituted alkyl radical, and at least one vinyl mono-unsaturated monomer having an aromatic radical on the vinyl group, by emulsion polymerization in water, using an emulsifier and a water-soluble initiator, the polymer obtained from monomers A having a glass transition temperature from 10 to 55 °C, II) polymerization of a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers B containing at least one polyolefin unsaturated monomer, at least one mono-unsaturated ester of (meth)acrylic acid having an unsubstituted alkyl radical, and at least one vinyl mono-unsaturated monomer having an aromatic radical on the vinyl group, by emulsion polymerization in water, using an emulsifier and a water-soluble initiator, in the presence of the polymer obtained in step I), the concentration of monomers 6.0 wt. % in the reaction solution was not exceeded during the reaction period, III) by polymerization of a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers C containing at least one alpha-beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid, at least one mono-unsaturated (meth)acrylic acid ester having an alkyl radical substituted by one or more hydroxyl groups, and at least one mono-unsaturated (meth)acrylic acid ester having an unsubstituted alkyl radical, by emulsion polymerization in water, using an emulsifier and a water-soluble initiator, in the presence of the polymer obtained in step II), the concentration of monomers 6.0 wt. % in the reaction solution is not exceeded during the reaction period, and IV) by adjusting the pH of the reaction solution to a pH of 7.5 to 8.5, a) a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers A contains at least 50.0 wt. % of one or more monomers having a solubility in water <0.5 g/l at 25 °C, the concentration of monomers A 6.0 wt. % in the reaction solution from stage I) is not exceeded and the resulting polymer after stage I) has a particle size of from 20 to 110 nm, b) the polymer obtained from monomers B has a glass transition temperature of -35 to 12 °C and the resulting polymer after stage II) has a particle size of from 130 to 200 nm, c) the polymer obtained from monomers C has a glass transition temperature from -50 to 15 °C and the resulting polymer after stage III) has a particle size of from 150 to 280 nm. Invention also relates to a pigmented water-based primer material containing the aqueous dispersion of the invention, to the use of the aqueous dispersion of the invention in aqueous primer materials to improve adhesion, to a method for producing a multilayer inking system on a substrate and to a multilayer inking system obtained in accordance with an established method.
