FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the preparation of (S)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid of the formula I from its hydrochloride. Process is carried out according to the following scheme by dissolving the hydrochloride II in isopropanol, followed by treating the resulting solution with an equivalent amount of the organic base and separating the (S)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid precipitate (I) by filtration. Process is characterized in that diethylamine is used as an organic base.

EFFECT: proposed process makes it possible to obtain (S)-3-(aminomethyl)-5-methylhexanoic acid in quantitative yield and at the same time is effective and environmentally safe.
