SUBSTANCE: invention relates to transmission and reception of video data after compression of the range of video data levels. Disclosed is obtaining, by applying a predetermined level-mapping curve to the input video data (HDR video data) in a first range of levels, video data for transmission (LDR video data) in a second range of levels narrower than the first range of levels. Video data for transmission are transmitted together with the auxiliary information used to convert the levels on the receiving end.
EFFECT: technical result consists in the possibility of displaying an image of good quality with a low dynamic range (LDR) derived from a high dynamic range (HDR) image.
