FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aqueous cationically stabilised primary dispersions. Aqueous cationically stabilised primary dispersion for the production of coating materials includes (1) dispersed polymer particles which (I) have a Z-average particle diameter of 5 to 500 nm, and (II) are obtained by emulsion polymerisation of at least one olefinically unsaturated monomer (A), wherein the emulsion polymerisation is carried out in the presence of one or more emulsifiers (EQ) having the following formula: where R1 is 15 to 40 carbon atom moiety that contains at least one aromatic group and at least one aliphatic group and which contains at least one functional group selected from hydroxyl groups, thiol groups and primary or secondary amino groups, and/or has at least one carbon-carbon multiple bond, wherein the moiety R1 has the structure Grali1-Grarom-Grali2-, where Grarom is an aromatic group, Grali1 is a first aliphatic group and Grali2 is a second aliphatic group and wherein the moiety R1 in the aliphatic group Grali1 has at least one carbon-carbon multiple bond and in the aliphatic group Grali2 has at least one functional group selected from hydroxyl groups, thiol groups and primary or secondary amino groups, R2, R3 and R4, independently of one another, are identical or different aliphatic fragments containing 1 to 14 carbon atoms, and is the acid anion of organic or inorganic acid HX. Invention also relates to a process for the preparation of primary dispersions, to a coating composition applied by electrodeposition, to the use of an aqueous cationically stabilised primary dispersion, to an electrically conducting substrate which is coated with a coating composition, to an emulsifier, which is used in the preparation of the primary dispersion.

EFFECT: technical result is that the obtained dispersions provide good pumpability of the coating solution and have good resistance to ultrafiltration, which ensures their processability during use.
