DEVICE FOR AERODYNAMIC BRAKING OF SPACECRAFT Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC B64G1/00

Abstract RU 2671067 C2

FIELD: space engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of retiring from an orbit of exhausted or defective automatic spacecraft (SC). Device comprises container (1) with an inflatable structure in the form of elastic casing (2), a mechanism for its attachment to the container, ejection and opening. This mechanism includes telescopic bar (3) or an elastic band with a length in the open state exceeding the maximum space of the spacecraft. In the container, which can be installed on the end of rod (3), there are systems of autonomous power supply, radio communication, etc. Shell (2) is made of a material with stiffness, which is variable under the influence of solar ultraviolet radiation, and is filled with a powder gasified under the action of said radiation. Shell (2) can also be connected by a flexible hose with a gas cylinder housed in a container or a vessel body. Area of shell midsection (2) in operating condition is at least three times the area of the spacecraft's midsection.

EFFECT: technical result is an increase in the autonomy of the device for aerodynamic braking of spacecraft and the possibility of its application for any orientation of space vehicles.
