SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of forming large-sized ceramic blanks from aqueous slurries into gypsum molds. Method for forming large-sized ceramic preforms is proposed, comprising: mounting in a dried moisture absorbing matrix repeating the outer contour of the article, a core repeating the inner contour of the article, filling of the formed gap with water slip, holding to the full set of the workpiece, removing the core, holding the collected blank in the mold, extracting the workpiece. Before installing the core in the matrix, the bottom of the active surface of the moisture absorbing matrix is wetted with water, while the height of the wetted surface is not more than 15 % of the height of the workpiece.

EFFECT: use of the proposed technical solution will reduce the technological losses in the molding of ceramic blanks with a thickened nose.
