FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to a thermophilic bacterial cell producing (S)-lactic acid obtained genetically by engineering and a process for producing enantiomerically pure (S)-lactic acid. Thermophilic bacterial cell obtained by genetically engineering is proposed, which is an optional anaerobic, gram-positive and producing (S)-lactic acid cell belonging to the Geobacillus genus, in which the endogenous gene mgsA of methyl glyoxal synthase is inactivated or deleted. Method for producing enantiomerically pure (S)-lactic acid, comprising cultivating said cell using a suitable fermentable carbonaceous source of nutrition and isolating (S)-lactic acid, is also provided.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides the enantiomerically pure (S)-lactic acid with a purity of at least 99,7 %.
