FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: pulsed ultraviolet gas discharge lamp contains a bulb of a transparent material in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum of the material and electrodes sealed at the ends of the bulb, and the bulb is filled with a plasma-forming medium based on xenon. Flask is made of fused quartz, each of the electrodes is made in the form of a mushroom-shaped tip and base, and a flask of colorless leucosapphire is placed in the flask with a clearance in relation to the bulb and relative to the electrodes in such a way that the electrode tips are located inside the leucosapphire tube. Dimensions of the bulb, leucosapphire tube and electrode bases are selected from the ratios. Lateral surface of the cylindrical base of each electrode may be formed with a notch or corrugations. Quartz bulb can be made with a variable diameter along the length. Leucosapphire tube can be made in the form of a set of successively located individual leucosapphire elements of short length. Bulb can be made curved, for example, a U-shaped.
