SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine, namely, to hygiene and microbiology, and is intended to down-regulate microorganisms. To down-regulate pathogenic microorganisms, the object is affected by the gas-air medium, one of the components of which is oxygen. This effect is carried out during at least one procedure or in a cyclic mode with a certain regularity, providing saturation and/or desaturation of at least one component of a mixture of gases into the cells of tissues of a biological object according to a predetermined algorithm. Number of procedures and their frequency are chosen depending on the number of saturate and/or desaturated gases and the degree of their saturation and/or desaturation. Down-regulating the growth, multiplication or division of pathogenic microorganisms is effected by an artificial gas medium, containing a reduced amount of oxygen and an increased amount of argon relative to air, a composition of 10–17 vol % O2, 30–40 vol % Ar, N2 – the rest.

EFFECT: use of the invention makes it possible to prevent contamination of pathogens by pathogens, to prevent the spread of them, and to increase the effectiveness of treatment of patients.
