FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to surgery, and can be used in treatment of patients with purulent stern mediastinitis. During the operation for purulent stern mediastinitis, excision of all non-viable tissues is performed, then the volume of the formed tissue defect is determined. If the volume of this defect is 25 cm3 and less the possibility of completing the operation without a plastic stage is stated. If this figure is more than 25 cm3, then the operation is completed by plastic surgery of the defect with a greater omentum or by other plastic method.
EFFECT: claimed method allows to quickly, accurately and reasonably put indications to the choice of a method of completing the operation with purulent stern mediastinitis.
