SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Proposed are methods for optimizing water consumption from a water injection system that injects water into an engine, depending on engine parameters such as ping, exhaust gas temperature and the need for dilution. Further, the amount of water chosen for injection purposes as well as the order of water injection depending on the various engine parameters are adjusted depending on the ratio of the current water level and the predicted water level in the water tank.
EFFECT: method provides the possibility of obtaining maximum benefits from the injection of water into the engine (fuel efficiency, reducing exhaust emissions and improving engine performance), in particular, when water supply is limited.
