SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical engineering, in particular to controlling exhaust gas recirculation valve. Engine control method, comprising, while operating an engine with an air-fuel ratio adjusted to be leaner than stoichiometry, in response to exhaust air-fuel ratio being leaner than a threshold, closing an exhaust gas recirculation valve, wherein said threshold is raised as the rotational speed the crankshaft of the engine and the engine load increase. Also disclosed is a version of the engine control method and an engine system.
EFFECT: technical result is improved fuel saving and improved road performance of the vehicle.
