SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engine control device and engine control method. Engine comprises mechanism with variable compression ratio, made with ability to change compression ratio of engine, and compressor made with ability to supply compressed air to engine. Engine control device controls variable compression ratio mechanism by setting target compression ratio in such a way, that the higher the response rate when discharge pressure is increased by means of supercharger, the lower the target compression ratio.

EFFECT: suppression of detonation in a variable compression ratio engine.
