SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the manufacture of welded structures of aluminum semi-finished products of variable thickness by friction stir welding. EFFECT: method provides a guaranteed full penetration of the root of the seam, stable formation of a defect-free welded joint with minimal residual deformations of the welded aluminum billets.
