SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in boosted internal combustion engines. Method for engine system (10) comprises routing air through heat exchanger (166) and into one or more combustion chambers (30) of the engine. Condensate is formed in heat exchanger (166) and the condensate is routed either to combustion chamber (30) or to engine exhaust (10), or to catalytic converter (70) connected to engine exhaust (10). Routing of the condensate is based on a contaminate in the condensate and the operating parameters of engine (10). Engine power (10) is lowered when the contaminate includes engine coolant. Method for engine system and engine system are disclosed.
EFFECT: prevention of undesirable operation of the catalytic converter.
