FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: present invention may be used in turbocharged internal combustion engines. Method is intended for an engine having a throttle and a turbocharger with a wastegate. Method comprises determining, using a controller, the logically derived pressure value at the throttle inlet (TIP) based on sensors indicating the air flow through the throttle, the throttle angle and the absolute pressure in the manifold. TIP value is measured using a TIP sensor. Measured TIP value is compared with the derived TIP value. When the logically derived TIP value differs from the measured TIP value, the wastegate is adjusted using a controller based on the logically derived TIP value and not based on the measured TIP value. Disclosed are a version of the method for an engine having a throttle and a turbocharger with a wastegate, and a system for the engine.
EFFECT: reducing the time of diagnosis of the throttle inlet pressure sensor to detect sensor degradation.
